Austrian Airlines App and Apple Wallet
#1
The App ratings are very poor

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/austrian/id400224803

EDIT: I figure it out. A long press on the Pass shows up the menu to share or Add to Wallet. The other airlines app I use have an export icon, a rectangle with a small arrow pointing upwards. I wish they used the same gestures in all these Apps.

That being said, once I logged in, it found my 3 boarding passes that I created earlier online via web. The passes do show up find in the App, but I cannot find a way to add them to the Apple Wallet. It says it does support Apple Wallet. How?

Searching for this issue in Google I found this

https://getpassbook.com/how-to-checkin/austrian

I never heard of getpassbook and I do not understand why a 3rd party tool would be needed to convert my Austrian Airline boarding pass to Apple Wallet. What do they do with your data?

Final question: I think Lufthansa bought Austrian a while back, in fact they forced me to log in with my miles-and-more account. Should I try the Lufthansa app to see if that can see my boarding passes and allow me to add to Apple Wallet?

Oh, and since I have TSA PreCheck, they applied that to the kids too, so hopefully we save some time tomorrow.

If you don't see an option to add it to the Wallet when you're viewing a boarding pass in the app then open a browser on your computer, sign into the website to view your boarding pass, and scan the QR code from the boarding pass with the camera app on your iPhone.

While you've got it loaded in your browser, print a copy just in case you have a problem with your iPhone later.

(From what I can tell, that site will just display the boarding pass for you to scan the QR code, same as if you'd loaded it yourself from the airline's website.)

Two things to know about precheck -- Don't expect any fast precheck lines on your way home. a few airports may have a precheck line, but most foreign airports do not. Likewise in the USA if you are rechecking a bag after clearing customs - no precheck lines. So allow time.

Both Austrian and Swiss are parts of the Lufthansa group. Sometimes you can see the other group member's tickets when you log in to the web site, sometimes not. I never used Austrian app, did use Lufthansa's. Does not hurt to try.

Be careful counting on shorter time with pre-check. At least at EWR, there is no separate TSA line when flying foreign airlines. The only thing you get is a note that you can keep your shoes on and go through metal detector instead of scanner. But the line is same for everyone. Depends on the configuration of the airport.

And yes, precheck is useless abroad but may not be in the US on the way back, depends on the configuration of the airport. For instance, coming back from Asia, you go to regular check in lines, including pre-check, at the SFO, like any domestic passenger. Although I doubt Austrian will issue you any pre-check boarding passes on the way back.
