Milli Vanilli didn't actually sing any of the songs they lip synched to or put down any vocals for the songs on the album. You may argue that alot of pop stars today don't really sing either, but at least (I think) it's their vocals that get manufactured and processed on their records. Therein lies the difference.

The point was they weren't lipsyncing their OWN voices. It's one thing to sing to a backup track, it's a whole other thing to have someone else record it.

I don't agree that "everyone" lipsyncs live.

How do you feel about performers having someone else sing on their record, and then claim it was them? And then win a Grammy for it? Read the link you posted.

Edit: beaten to the punch.

What I don't get is what those two guys offered to be chosen as the faces of the enterprise. The guy on the left looks like a college professor in a wig and the guy on the right looks like a woman in a wig. You'd think they would have picked men that looked more sexy or at least more interesting.

It was the 80's, there's no explanation for things that went on in the 80's.

"Blame it on the rain...yah, yah..." Genius.

The Milli Vanilli scandal was not about lipsynching. (It was a RECORD, not a live performance issue.) The issue was that they received "Best New Artist" Grammy while not performing on their own record.

IMHO, the scandal lies far more in the lap of NARAS (the Grammy people) for so consistently going out of their way to recognize "new artists" that do nothing "new."

Case in point: One of the nominees this year was Imogen Heap, a pretty original performer. The winner? "American Idol" spawn Carrie Underwood.
