Well, I broke my fiancée's emac last night while trying to "fix" it...

I was planning on taking the noisy optical drive out altogether but I broke the little plastic housing/socket thingy on the other side of the power button. No more power to the emac. She's not that upset, as she got a new Macbook at work, but I feel terribly about it.

I offered to give her my iBook and go buy a Macbook Pro, but she shot it down (dammit!).

It's just a teeny little part...I can't believe I messed it up to the point of not being able to start the computer. I guess I'll check ebay a bunch and see if I can find a replacement housing to try to fix the thing. Sad

He is parting out an eMac and may have what you need.

I think this auction includes the wire and piece you need.

Thanks, but I need the button side. It seems like I'd have to buy the whole case to get that button part. I appreciate that you looked, though.

Remember, Buy first...apologize later.

EDIT:

Be sure to customize it to where it can not be returned.

Don't feel too bad. When my husband's eMac was new the HD went bad just after we got it. We took it in to the Apple Store to get it fixed, and they broke the same little part when they were replacing the HD. It was going to take too long for them to get a replacement part, so they just gave him a new machine. I guess someone got his as a refurb when they finally got his fixed. Apparently it is a pretty easy part to break.

You ain't kidding. It didn't take much to break that little piece.

She says she doesn't care, that she got her money's worth from it. I still feel like an ass, though.

That's what happens sometimes when you try to be nice.
