How about "Please?" I mean, the thing is free. Would being polite hurt?

Just now you found out that courtesy is a lost art esp. in CA? I am teaching basic manners, i.e. "May I ...", "Please", "Thank you", "Excuse me", and the likes, to pre-K children everyday just to have their ill-mannered parents not re-enforcing the behavior.
