My Cube still has its stock 450MHz processor and ATI Rage 128 16MB video card. I have been contemplating upgrading to a faster processor and a GeForce 6200 video card. It looks like the PowerLogix processor upgrades are starting to dry up. OWC used to have a dual 1.5GHz upgrade which is now gone.
Are processor upgrades for the G4 Cube going to be gone soon? I think a Cube with a dual 1.5GHz processor and a GeForce 6200 would still be a great computer.

My understanding has always been that the Cube takes the same proc upgrades as most of the towers, just uses it's own heat sink to fit in the enclosure. As for the video card, I'm not sure. I have heard of people upgrading their Cubes to the max, only to be SOL because of the wimpy stock power supply not being able to handle it all.

Don't tease me! Man that would be great if it were true.

They're probably drying up because the interest in the Cube is pretty low these days.
There used to be several CPU upgrades for the Cube, single and a couple duals.
OWC Larry could probably give much more accurate info.

I hear that Daystar 40Mhz upgrades for the Se/30 are hard to find too.
It's a conspiracy, I tell ya !!

For the cost of a CPU upgrade + video upgrade for the Cube, you'll can buy a used/refurbished 1.25 to 1.5 GHz G4 Macmini that a lot smaller and has built-in USB2.

FYI:
I had a cube with the Sonnet 1.2Ghz processor/1.5GB Ram/ATI 9200 w/128MB vram/120GB WD Hdrive. Also you have to have the coordination of a watchmaker to work on those cubes.
I sold it because it did not play back movies(pirated bittorrent files) without the occasional dropped frames then video breakdown as it tries to recover its position in the timeline.
I even swapped video cards to an nVidia Geforce 2MX thinking that it may be a video problem-no dice! I also swapped hardrives thinking that may have been the problem.
In comparison my Digital Audio with the faster mobo(133mhz) had no trouble playing the very same files. It had a Sonnet 1.4Ghz processor and 1.5MB of Ram(no the 200 Mhz difference would not be the problem).
On a further persuasive note, I also had an upgraded Sawtooth(same mobo speed as the cube-100mhz) and it had the occasional problem with dropped frames and recovery annoyances.
I would sell it and get a mini as recommended above.
