I didn’t watch either. It appears that a big US company is buying the port facilities on either end of the Panama canal from the Chinese company that currently owns these facilities at a mutually-agreeable price. And as I understand it, said US company actually had to tell the White House that this was a possibility.

Imagine that - you’d think that the very stable genius and smartest-businessman-ever would have considered that before threatening Panama. Now Panama has to approve the deal. Will they?

The other thing I’ve read about is that Trump’s folks, in the complete absence of good economic news, are crowing about a drop in the 10 year T bill rate (and the following mild drop in mortgage rates). If you’re not a mouth-breather, the former is known as a fairly reliable indicator of an upcoming recession, and the latter likely reflects a disappearance of demand as home sales have tanked (after being up in December).

President Donald Trump doubled down on his intention of purchasing Greenland.

"I think we're going to get it one way or the other. We're going to get it," Trump said, appearing to leave open the possibility of taking over the mineral-rich Danish territory using military force or economic coercion.

I didn't have time to watch the liar in chief either. The candied yam makes so many false claims whenever he speaks, it makes me not want to hear ANYTHING he has to say. MSM, FACT CHECK on the truth and REPORT on the falsehoods! The American public needs to be informed about his lying, FILTHY statements!! :censor:

I didn't listen either (why bother?) but saw pics of some Dems holding up signs that said "false," and others walked out during the speech.

Still reeling over how much damage he's done in a short time.

Both at home and abroad.

Al Green was the only Democrat with the spine to stand up…. The rest? Spineless blobs. All can be recalled at the next possible election and no one will ever know the difference.

This is no doubt just the tip of the iceberg:

Out-of-date polls to wrong aid amounts: factchecking Trump’s Congress address
The president’s marathon address to a joint session of Congress was littered with false claims he’s been corrected on but continued to repeat

Just the SOS. (Not the distress call; the Same ‘Ol Shit)

One of the worst was Rasmussen releasing a poll showing a +1 point “Right track vs wrong track” poll which is wildly out of line with other current polls:

A poll from YouGov and The Economist, conducted among 1,595 adults from February 9 to February 11, showed just 35 percent of Americans believing the country is on the right track, compared to 52 percent who believed the country is headed in the wrong direction.

Meanwhile, a Marquette University poll showed 62 percent of Americans believing the country is on the wrong track, while 38 percent believe it's heading in the right direction. The poll surveyed 1,063 adults from January 27 to February 5.

But this was a Rasmussen poll:

As the polling expert Nate Silver noted last year, when it was revealed that Rasmussen was secretly showing its results to the Trump campaign, “this sort of explicit coordination with a campaign, coupled with ambiguity about funding sources, means that we’re going to label Rasmussen as an intrinsically partisan ® pollster going forward”.

BTW, Rasmussen has only been asking this question for 20 years, which Trump characterized as “the first time in modern history”. My “modern history” goes back a wee bit farther, to like 2000, when up to 70% of people felt satisfied with the way things were going (per Gallup, who has been asking this question for 45+ years). (And then a couple years later, Bush II invaded Iraq, and that ended that.)

You are forgetting the ones who walked out and the ones who boycotted it. The problem, as always with Democrats, is that getting them to all agree on something is like herding cats. I think the "Lies" sign could have been effective if ALL of them held it up whenever he lied, but that didn't happen. All of them walking out one by one would have pleased me, but that didn't happen. After googling for a bit, it seems that the media is refusing to give a headcount on who stayed away and who walked out.

So, I think it's wrong to dismiss all the Democrats like that. Lay the blame on Schumer and Jeffries, who are still refusing to understand that these are not normal times. This puts Democrats in the awkward position of risking "Dems in disarray" headlines if they begin to strike out on their own, while if they do not, they are accused of being stiffs. Lose/lose as the saying goes.

What the ones who understand the assignment need to do is to form a caucus, try to make it huuuuge, and that way they can act in union to force the leaders to admit that pretending things are normal is not what the public is looking for. Then it's not Dems in disarray, it's Dems at a crossroads or some other such stupid but not as bad cliche.

The other problem is that we spent four years denigrating Republicans who disrupted Presidential speeches. Once again, hoist on our own petard. We sent a message that the public doesn't like it when congresspeople act up and act out, so this probably had an unfortunate effect upon leadership's point of view as they are not adept at keeping up with the national mood.

Except that it's indeed like herding cats, it would be cool if Dems had multiple signs with words and colors, to display as is done at some football games.

They could make one big LIES! or display a meme, or a pejorative phrase the whole time.

Maybe even a SHUT UP MTG!

That would keep the cameras so busy even CFDT would have trouble talking sense.

Oh wait. . .
