BYD vs Tesla - the numbers don't lie

Tesla is in trouble and losing ground quickly. It is no longer the top BEV maker in the world. Its issues are multiple, from a lack of innovation to quality control and high prices. Then there is the Musk factor. The domestic market alone cannot sustain them, and they can no longer compete on the global market

BYD's quarterly revenue rose 36% to about $23.51 billion
Tesla's quarterly revenue dropped 9% to $19.34 billion

BYD BEV sales rose 60% to nearly 1 million in the first quarter
Tesla sales dropped 13% to 336,681 over the same period

BYD BEV sales in Europe tripled for the first quarter to 37,000 units
Tesla sales were down 45% to 36,000 units
VW was the leading BEV seller in Europe with 65,000 units sold in the 1st quarter

BYD wants to export 800,000 BEV vehicles to international markets this year as part of a projected 5.5-million-unit sales
Tesla total sales project out to 1.5 million for the year.

I'm not in the market for a car, but MRF certainly. has provided me a ton of info on EVs. One of my persistent thoughts is why we are not seeing Chinese EVs all over our streets. Yes ,I know, protectionism. But if everyone finds the platform so necessary...

Maybe Tesla needs to go through what Apple went through in 1985 when they fired Jobs, and again in 1997 when Jobs came back. It's the combination of those two events that made Apple what it is today.

Get rid of Musk and give him 12 years to think about what a second chance might look like.

They're Apple before Steve Jobs came back.

...I'm not sure Elon coming back would have quite the same effect.

I have not researched BYD, so just guessing here.
How much of a price jump would it be for those BYD EV’s to become legal in the US?
Not even thinking the tariffs piece, just all the requirements for safety, etc. that need
to be on US destination cars.

Piece of cake.

BYD cars are selling throughout Europe with 5-star ratings, and that's notable particularly for Germany, where they have the toughest vehicle safety laws in the world.

The only reasons for charging high prices in the United States will be costs for shipping and tariffs, and just because they can.

This. EU safety standards are higher than US ones.

I think the EU regulations are base, and the individual countries can be more strict, so that German standards can be more restrictive than, say, Italy.
