OK- after advice from you all and what I can possibly afford (if I sell my Windows Laptop) I could afford a decent m1 mi

eBay has m1 minis 16/512 for around $360 (free shipping) and an m1 mini 16/1TB for around $410 free shipping(both ebay Refurbished). I asked chatGPT to compare the processor in my old Acer Nitro V (i7-7700HQ) to an m1 and it overwhelmingly said the m1 is much faster and I already think my Acer is pretty fast for my needs. Plus my M2 iPad Air is extremely fast too and perfect for my needs even tho it’s a bit faster than an m1.

So, now I just need to sell my Acer Nitro V. Anyone know anyone who might want to buy it? It’s a decent laptop - intel i7-7700HQ, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512 SSD, webcam, HD display,NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti, - never had any problems with it. Still have the original box, packing, power supply, etc. I’m asking $400.

here are those m1 minis from ebay:

If I can suggest also looking on swappa. I’ve used for iPhone and Mac computer purchases. Never had a problem. And even was able to send back a laptop when the webcam was not working.

The M4 is such a jump in performance from even the M2, and was readily available under $500 for the base model.... it's hard to imagine paying over $400 for an M1. As I recall you need 1 TB of storage so whether there's a quarter TB or a half a TB internal isn't going to matter much.

The M4 or M2 under $500? Where? As for storage I probably could get by with 512 gigabytes and then use externals drives. So what do you suggest?

Speak of the devil, but I just found a M2 Mac mini 16 GB of RAM 512 GB storage for $450!

I am not sure why you are comparing Acer processor to M1/M2. Do you run the same apps on both? You do know that you cannot install Windows on Apple silicon Macs and thus you would not be able to play any Windows games (which is why I keep an i7 mini with external video card)? You probably know all this, but I just want to make sure, as you are replacing a gaming Windows machine with a not-really-gaming Mac and comparing the processors in the two.

I would be very leery of anything on Facebook Marketplace. There's a ton of scams out there.
