Green room? Atrium? Sun room?
#1
I’m looking for a little direction for a possible project. We would like to add onto our house a room that could be used in four seasons for plants. We might enclose an existing patio area. I found a picture of what I want but can’t figure out who makes it. Advice is welcome.

Get it at Amazon:

Or:

Depends if you want to do it yourself or pay a general contractor or sunroom contractor.

That looks like the picture! Amazing. How did you do that?

Unfortunately it appears to be a single season room rather than three so the hunt continues.

As a fan of older architecture… a “Conservatory” comes to mind. There is a local flower shop that is in a 120 year old Victorian greenhouse that was moved from an estate in Michigan… it’s gorgeous. Of course the operation also has an active natural gas well to heat it. Otherwise it would be unaffordable.

You could go prefabricated… companies sell those “three season rooms”, but a greenhouse needs to be all season. Think heating, depending on your location.

Maybe search for "lanai"? or "solarium"?

You can call it what you want, but it's probably the same company who can build them. Around here I see "sunroom" used often in advertisement. One of the biggest firms around here calls themselves
"Patio Enclosures Inc."

Cary, that link was very helpful. It seems what I want is a solarium.

Cbelt, I’m thinking heat pump for this project so it can both cool and heat.

Thanks for the help. This project is definitely in the thinking about it phase as it’s going to be expensive.

Jdc, thank you for that link. At that price tag it would be a doable project. I’m considering it as a retirement present to ourselves instead of moving. The retirement date is still a few years down the road, but I’m collecting information to see if this is realistic.
