Speaking of Car Batteries - the EV version

BYD has started selling began EVs this month, which are "capable of providing around 400 kilometers (249 miles) of range in five minutes .

So in the time it takes to gas up a standard ICE car, the Han L sedan can get a charge giving it the same range as a tank of gas. The car is similar in size to a Toyota Camry and retails for around $28000.

It does not say what charging system is being used.

BYD is also building factories in European Union countries to avoid EU tariffs. I wish they would build a factory here.

Keep in mind that you need an amount of power equal to the needs of a small village to do that 5min charge. You can offset that with batteries, but if you want to charge more than a few cars a day, that's going to be an issue.

I can generally charge my Tesla on road-trips in the amount of time it takes me to pee and get a coffee/snack. I don't find that charge time to be much of an issue.

It’s not an issue. Certainly not any more than it’s an issue for Tesla superchargers. (Which were once pretty cool and are now a decade behind the rest of the world. Sucks for the US.)

I don't always want to pee and take a snack break every time I need fuel. You mentally have to alter your fueling standards in order to accept inconvenience and reduce range anxiety. Nothing wrong with that but that's what happens. I want the BYD method. I want it asap. I don't care how many villages worth of power it would take.

In certain parts of the US, EV charging isn't an issue. However, there are areas where it is a PITA. A large insurance company insisted on deploying EV's to all their field staff - no option. In certain areas, this has negatively impacted the staff productivity. I know a few of the staff members. What used to be a long day trip is now effectively 2+ days as they have very few superchargers along their typical travel routes. They need hours to charge.

In rural areas, they do. They don't have access to super chargers. You can deny it if you want.

I think your disagreement may have to do with the difference between power and energy. When you transfer a large amount of energy in a short amount of time, that means your infrastructure needs to be rated for much higher power. In this case power being the rate of energy transfer. That’s certainly going to be more of an issue than what a Tesla supercharger demands (power requirement’s an order of magnitude greater….I think).
