Another TIL: leave-in conditioner
#1
Back from the dermatologist a little while ago. In the course of chatting, I mentioned my dry scalp. He checked and didn't see anything of concern, but mentioned I might benefit from dandruff shampoo and something called leave-in conditioner. I'm embarrassed to say I rarely use any kind of conditioner, but when I do, my experience has always been to apply after shampooing, leave it in for several minutes, then rinse out. Apparently this is stuff that you don't rinse out. He mentioned I can get it at any hair salon, but cheap bastid that I am, I'm more inclined to hit Target or CVS.

Any recommendations for a particular brand of this 'product' that I don't have to take out a loan for at a salon? Or is it pretty much all the same? Thanks.

Shampoo: Nizoral ($16 at target/amazon)
In Shower Conditioner: PURA D'OR Deep Moisturizing Biotin Conditioner ($20 amazon)
Spray in daily: Pantene Pro-V Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner $6 target
HEETA Hair Scalp Massager $7.50

This will get your scalp to a quality condition at a relatively inexpensive pricepoint.

Wurm,

I use leave-in conditioner pretty regularly. In my experience, some are better than others and expensive variations are rarely so much better that they justify the additional bucks.

I swap between these:

Aussie Hair Insurance

The Aussie works for me for general day to day. The AG Care Fast Food is a splurge, so, I use it once a week. I'm well covered between the two and they last a _long_ time if you have short hair!

Since you mentioned using dandruff shampoo, you may want to try something that goes after it:

No actual experience with the Head and SHoulders or SheaMoisture products. I may grab the SheaMoisture spray for Little M, who gets dry scalp.

Thank you, all. And now more research is giving me conflicting info, stating that leave-in conditioner is not good for the scalp.

Wurm,

I'd be inclined to trust the advice of your dermatologist. Give the Head and Shoulders product a shot. Worst case, it doesn't make a difference and you discontinue it. Best case, it helps with your scalp and assists with styling your hair. Either way, it's not expensive and worth a try.

I don’t have that problem. I’ve been shaving my head for 20 years now.
