Anyone else dig Gypsy jazz guitar, ala Django Reinhardt? Beato interviews guitar phenom Joscho Stephan
#1
This interview takes a deep dive into Gypsy Jazz guitar technique and Django lore. It's basically a master class taught by the incredible Joscho Stephan. Yeah, I never heard of him until now. An oversight I intend to remedy. If you're a guitar player there's enough here to keep you in the woodshed for years. At the end he brings his rhythm guitarist onboard for some just amazing playing. Dang, I gotta go practice. Once again, thanks Rick.

One of our members introduced me to Stephane Wrembel years ago. The story was that he played in the basement of his kid's kindergarten and was somehow connected to one of the staff members. I don't remember now who it was that shared that story, but been listening to his music ever since then. (It's likely been 10+ years so I may have details of that story wrong)

Another that I just learned about is Yorgui Loeffler:

Thanks for posting this! I love the style, can't play it, but greatly admire those who do. Years ago when I was in Paris during the spring I was delighted to see numerous small groups of musicians playing gypsy jazz out on the streets. And they were all great.

Found this today, Joscho’s trio with Matteo Mancuso sitting in. Mancuso is just slightly out of his element but holds his own. He’s still just a kid after all and best known for jazz fusion. I’ve got tickets to see him next month here in Portland.

I've been a HUGE fan of Reinhardt ever since I discovered his music some 35 years ago.

Yeah, he did more with two fingers than many others.
