Can't log in with my original user name and password
#1
Howdy all! Good to see the forum back! I've been trying to get back on the forum with my old user name for a few days but have had no luck. I changed my old password and got a confirmation by email but when I try to log in I get this message: "Authorization code mismatch. Are you accessing this function correctly? Please go back and try again." I wasn't able to send an email through the Contact Us link so I created a new user which at first wasn't working but now is.

If Troy or anyone else working on the forum sees this, can you please authorize my original username, JoeM to work now or allow it however it needs to be done?

Thanks!

My experience has been similar to JoeM's. Just created a new username to be able to be both logged in and get to the actual posts.

If you PM and email Troy, he may be able to get your old name so that you can reclaim it.
It took me several PMs and emails, but it finally worked.
I did not get a follow up from Troy, I just gave the old UN and PW reset a go once a day and one day it worked.
Good luck, but you are here is the main thing.

You don't get access to your old PMs or files, so other than post and thread count, and of course sentimental value, there is really no advantage. Also, the new UN accounts seem to work much better with PMs if that is important.

What they all said. Keep trying the old one. It finally worked for me.

(You might have to reset your PW again. Seemed to work for Jerry®)

Pro tip: If you have used the same email for your new account and your old account, it's not really possible to change the old password. As the first step in the reset is to enter an email address, I inadvertently changed the new one. Then got frustrated when I could not log into the old one or the new one.

I have since given up on the old account, especially hearing no access to old PMs or files. I am embraced seeing the new user name creativity and appreciate those that make a note of their old name in their signature.

Old one if you want messed up PM folders.

Or a new one where everything works correctly.

try to reset PW again, it worked for this guy

As others have said the old passwords didn't make the transition.

There have also been permissions errors.

The best anyone can do is have their correct email to go with the desired UN.

Try to reset the password.

When the first link in troy's auto activation email fails, use the second to manually enter the OG UN and wait for a second email with a temporary password.

If that fails, then the account probably has a permissions error that's been mentioned.

PM troy with what you've done and wait.

At this point, I believe try fixed my account but I didn't get an email, and this was mentioned in one of his earlier emails.

So I tried it and got right into my old account.

In my case, it took quite some time to get the email with my temporary password.

I realized that when a day later, two emails showed up with it.

Persevere.

I have to reset my password a coupla times and when logging in for the first time on any computer (I have about 15), I've had to log in twice on each one, getting that "Authorization code mismatch. Are you accessing this function correctly? Please go back and try again" on each one the first time.

It's kinda like an old friend now...

I just gave up on keeping my old user name. I got to where I could log in with it, but then was denied access to the forum.

“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.'"
