DVD Studio Pro experts: custom cursor icon?
#1
I know it's possible and I know that it's done with multiple layers in Photoshop and chroma settings in DVDSP, but I can't find a clear utility to describe the process. I understand how to make a custom shape for buttons but I want to make it only show up where the cursor is.

For example, if I have a list of four items on a menu, the default button is the first item in the list. Its button should be the only one with the icon next to or on it. As I move one down, the button for the next one down should light up.

Normally I would do this by cheating and doing an auto-activate to a new menu with a different background containing the "button". This won't work though because my menu has a singular audio track and I would lose continuity jumping around to a four different menus.

Suggestions?

Ask Bruce or post this question to his Recipe4DVD group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/recipe4dvd/

I point you there rather than telling you myself because it's been a while since I've done this. It's also in this book: http://www.amazon.com/DVD-Studio-Pro-Bru...27?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1175708828&sr=1-1

I signed up for the Yahoo group and posted. Bruce responded in about an hour and he had some suggestions, but it's still not working. Funny, the first thing he said was a reference to finding the answer in his book. Smile

In simpler terms I'm wanting to have a button highlight that is invisible unless selected and multiple of them on one menu. This way, when the DVD is displayed on a tv, the highlight appears to be like a cursor.

I saw your post on the user group, and his reference to his book, I think, was because the procedure might have been a little complicated for a quick answer on an email list. What you describe is absolutely possible, not that difficult (it can't be too tough if I did it when I first got into this, back at DVDSP 1.5). I got the procedure for layered menus from the book.

Clay's suggestion of online help is good as well- more specifically, you find what you want at http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/ale...pter1.html - but I will say that Bruce's book is an excellent investment if you're doing any serious work in DVDSP.

You'll also find that your membershipo in that group is valuable- there's a great bunch of gurus there who usually respond very quickly.

I'm pretty advanced in DVDSP, just never quite got the hang of chroma settings in custom highlights from PhotoShop. I'm really getting into scripting now as it has opened up so many doors to the plain old DVD. Thanks for the tips!
