Misunderstood lyrics
#1
The music was playing as a friend & I rewired an electrical circuit & he started singing along to Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild.

"...fire all of your guns at Wunzie, explode into space..."

Huh?! He said he always wondered who Wunzie was & why they were shooting at him.

"Lock the cash box" or was it "Stop the cat box?" Big Grin

The hardest lyrics for me to decipher, I finally had to look at the sheet music years and years ago, were "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress." Even after knowing what the words are, it can still be hard to understand.

i thought the line in 'Groovin' was:

That would be ecstasy
You and me and Leslie

always wondered who the heck Leslie was? didn't figure it out until in my 30s.

That would be ecstasy
You and me endlessly

I used to think Don Henly's "Boys of Summer" was "Poison summers" pertaining to people have nothing to do in the summer but have pointless summer flings.

My father claimed to think that Paul McCartney was singing "That would be something, to beat you with a ball and chain".
That would be something,
It really would be something,
That would be something,
To meet you in the falling rain, momma,
Meet you in the falling rain.

He also wanted to know who the hell would buy a song called "Hang on, Stupid". (That's Hang on Sloopy for anyone too young to remember).

But sometimes it was hard to tell if my father was pulling our leg or not.

Ha ha ha, good thread. GF used to think "Forever in blue jeans" was "Reverend blue jeans."

H.S. friend used to think lyrics from '80s hit song "Der Kommisar" were "Don't turn around...oh oh...they call me Sargeant Brown...oh oh..."

I still can't deciper parts of "Afternoon Deight" and England Dan and John Ford Coley's "Really love to see you tonight."

Forget about anything grunge altogether. "Smells like teen spirit" is a mystery.
