Personally, I'd recommend renting a convertible with a one-way rental and driving up (or down) Highway 1. I'd also recommend a 2-day trip from SF to Yosemite and/or Tahoe. How much time does she have.

...and another thing...for the most part I'd stay the heck away from LA. It isn't anywhere near as pleasant or glamorous as it appears on TV. Others may differ, but there's a reason I don't live there anymore.

"...the women. How much for the women?"

Send 'em to me, I'll show them ALL the sites!

But really, I don't know the best way to do it other than renting a car and driving. That's the best option in my opinion if two of them go. And yes, they need to see Yosemite, Tahoe and Sequoia.

edit: there are a TON of hostels along the coast in central and northern California. Great places to stay, great way to meet some other people, and a great way to save some $$ over typical hotels. There's also some great hostels in SF and even one in LA (though I've not stayed at the one in LA).

I have a classic droptop, and I would be willing to take a week or two off........Chinatown in SanFran sounds great to me.
