Consumer Alert! HannsG Rebates! NOT Coming Through Anymore
#1
If you've had good luck getting your Hanns-G Rebate checks from the purchase of one of their LCD monitors, then this obviously doesn't apply to you. And from what I gathered, the rebates *were* coming through just fine during the 1st part of the promotions, which began in 8/2006, as I recall.

With my rebate, however, it never happened. I purchased my Hanns-G HC-194D 19" LCD display on 9/14/2006, and got it via DHL SDS a couple days later. I immediately filed the Rebate papers, and got the 1st of two rebates pretty quickly, the $20 one. I think it took less than 4 weeks, and I was happy. Then the problems began. I was given an online tracking number for the $100 rebate, and they claimed that they didn't receive it until 10/26/2006, which would have been impossible considering my USPS Delivery Confirmation Receipt told another story: received on 9/21/2006. I kept tabs on the "progress" of my submission, and it seemed to never change through December, January, and finally in early February I figured that something was very, very wrong.

I called PCConnection's Customer Service Dept., to a special department that handles rebates, and talked with 'Kristin" who asked me for the rebate's "Tracking Number" which I gave her, and she said she would look into why I didn't have the $100 rebate yet, and it was some 6 months after filing the proper papers. All those months, the online status of my rebate never changed when I'd check..."Status Detail: Your Rebate is valid and is scheduled for final processing." It would say the same thing, every time I checked during December, January, and finally in February.

A couple days later Kristin called me on the telephone, and she again asked for my "Tracking Number", which I gave to her again, and she promised she'd call again with news very soon. "We've been intervening with the rebate company "Parago.com" on an individual basis for customer who haven't received their rebates for several months now," she told me. So apparently I wasn't alone, and PC Connection was actively helping customers who complained.

I didn't hear anything for more than a week, but finally on February 27 Kristin called again, and she told me this: "Hanns-G is NOT coming through with the $100 rebates to the rebate company, so they've stopped processing the $100 rebate checks until further notice...so you won't be getting a $100 check from Parago.com. Instead, we're going to issue your credit card, used in the purchase, a $100 credit. We can't predict when, if ever, your rebate will be processed and a check sent, thus PC Connection will provide the $100 rebate in this manner." Kindof shocked, I asked her when the credit would be issued to my VISA card, and she said, "Immediately...within 72 hours or less."

So I thanked her for following through with the problem situation, and for handling the $100 credit to my VISA card, and she apologized for all the trouble I'd been through for all those months of waiting, for naught. The VISA card credit was applied to my account in just 2 days following our phone conversation. So at least I finally got the $100 "Rebate", though it was only after PC Connection got involved and handled things themselves. Finally, I could look at my HC-194D LCD display and think, "Hmmmm, you really did only cost $100 after all!."

My advice in regard to any outstanding Hanns-G Rebates is that you contact the merchant you did business with, be it Office Depot, PC Connection/MacConnection, Best Buy etc and handle it as I did, by going directly to the CS Dept. that handles rebates, and get your money back any way you can because of the situation that exists with Hanns-G at this time. I am sorry to be the purveyor of such bad news, but it's likely that most all of you have received your rebates by now...this notice is just for those who haven't or who have given up on getting the $100 rebate from Parago.com.

There is hope, you just have to make it happen yourselves now.

As for future purchases involving Hanns-G promotions involving rebates, if there are any now or for any to come, the word is "Buyer Beware."

Why are you limiting your "Buyer Beware" warning to Hanns-G promotions involving rebates?

With EVERY rebate situations, it's buyer beware.

Roll the dice, people. There are two kinds of suckers in the world: those who have been burned by rebates, and those who haven't YET been burned by rebates.

All this talk by people here about how they've gotten every rebate back with no problem and have saved $43,526 (never mind what they spent to "save" that) is just that--all talk. It's pure BS.

OK elmo, point is taken. However, this is the 1st time I've not received a rebate check within a reasonable time, and that includes about a dozen Seagate HD rebates, Epson printer and scanner rebates, and countless others. If the world were as bleak as you paint it, the sun would never rise. This is just a FYI for people who are having/had trouble with the Hanns-G rebates. It's not worth condemning every rebate "promotion" as bunk because of one bad situation.

More important is 'Hanns-G' has not got the funds to pay Parago to process rebates. Guaranteed that merchants who refund the $100 will deduct that from any payables due to Hanns-G or their distributor.

Eventually, no cash flow for Hanns-G means no support for end users. Warranties will be useless.

Yes, this is the scary part of the Hanns-G situation. I had occasion to have my LCD into their "repair shop" because the switching brain in my unit went dead, and there was a bad DVI cable to boot, complicating matters and diagnosis...my LCD display was in their shop for more than 8 weeks before I got it back, and they're physically only about 350 miles from where I live (they're in Fremont, CA). My technician kept promising me, over and over, that the display was"finished" or "shipped" or "in transit", but those were just excuses it turned out.

The displays have 3-years of "warranty", and yet, that could be a worthless proposition if they go out of business, or cease to honor valid warranty claims for any number of reasons. You have to wonder WTF is going on with Hanns-G, as their products were selling in record numbers throughout the summer and winter. I know of about 15 friends and family members who purchased their displays because of the excellent price per value quotient, and all have, with my help now, received their "rebates" or credit card refunds.

I can only pray that my 19" display will be good to go from now on....

I gave up on my rebate around January. I called PCConnection a few days ago and they promised to look into it. I don't expect anything still, but it would be nice.

Fritz, don't give up hope just yet!

Call PC Connection up again, and ask to speak to Kristin, in the Customer Service Department that's handling rebate problems. She was incredibly helpful to me, knows all about the problems with the Hanns-G Rebates not getting fulfilled, and she will help you to resolve the situation. You should mention my experience when you speak with her, and tell her you'd gladly accept a refund to your credit card in lieu of the $100 Rebate Check, which apparently is never coming.

If that nice CS Rep could help me, she can also help you. PC Connection/Mac Connection share the same Customer Service Departments AFAIK. Even if I am wrong about that, ultimately it's PC Connection who's responsible for fulfilling that rebate, not Hanns-G. Be the squeaky wheel and you'll get some action if you use the right tactics. I didn't expect anything good to happen when I called their CS Dept., but just a few days later my credit card had a $100 refund and my case was closed.
