Lost Camera (Any Hope??)
#1
Last Week I was on a Business Trip to Washington DC. On Friday, I grab a cab from downtown to Dulles International Airport, and along the way my Fuji e900 camera fell out of my laptop bag. The bag was next to me in the Taxi.

I didn't notice the camera missing until I got into the terminal, and the cab was well down the road with my camera in the back seat. ($250 camera that my girlfriend gave me as a Christmas gift.)

All I have left is a receipt which has the driver signature, nothing else. No Taxi Cab info or name of the Taxi cab. I'll scan the receipt in later tonight to see if someone can help.

My advice to anyone getting into a cab is to write down the driver and cab information while you are ridding in the cab. Obviously double check your bags before leaving the cab.

Anyone ever have luck getting something from a cab company?

Quick update:

Looks like the cab I was in belonged to: DC Express Cab Association

That's according to information on this site:
http://dctaxi.dc.gov/dctaxi/cwp/view,a,1...487910.asp

Which offer color information of each cab and I remember it being maroon!

The problem isn't the cab company so much as who the next customer was. Did they quietly slip the camera under their jacket and smile to themselves about their good fortune? Or did they tell the driver that someone left a camera in the cab and turn it over to him?

Can you remember what color the cab was? Someone may be able to figure out what cab company it was if you can remember the color. Does one of these companies ring a bell?

and absolutely nothing says that the driver will even admit that they DID find the camera.

I ride cabs every day and most cabbies are honest, nice people. I have had two friends who were cab drivers at one time or another. Don't assume the worst about an entire group of people.

I never commented in the likelyhood, just that it could happen that way.

bfd found a camera a few months back, and as luck would have it, recognized one of the people in a picture that was in the camera. A few calls later … owner reunited with camera. Chances of that happening were not high, since the camera was lost during a pretty big party ( > 200 people)…

So, while it can happen, the likelihood in your case may not be great.

I went to an auction once being held by the Orlando Aviation Authority. It was for lost and found stuff. While looking at one camera, I opened the user manual to find the name and address of the original owner in it. The camera still had film in it too. I guess the airport was too lazy to even try contacting the owners.

Your chances are probably better than 50 percent. Make your calls.
