Selling a Pismo: Part out or sell whole?
#1
I'm considering selling my Pismo, and not sure whether parting it out or selling it as a functional machine is the best option. It looks like working Pismos with similar specs are going for generally 250-300 on ebay. Parts are a bit trickier to value, as there haven't been all that many completed listings. Despite the fact that it works just fine, I'm considering parting it out if that would get me more cash for it.

The Pismo is 500mhz, has a newish screen (replaced March 2006), 512MB (maybe 768 if I can locate the old RAM), and 60GB HD. Generally good condition with the usual dings that company a 7 year old powerbook. Has CD/DVD, weight saver, 1 decent (~1-hour) battery. I have the original box and disks, if that makes a difference.

I know we have some Pismo enthusiasts around here, what's generally been your best experience with this model in terms of sales?

Unless it has an airport card, you would probably be better off selling it as whole.

I'd sell it whole as you'd have to dig up the old parts (HD, RAM) to make a working Piz to sell if you parted it out. Good thing you have the 500 as most people won't pop for a G4 upgrade and the extra MHz is welcome ($). No idea about price, however and I already have 2 Piz 500s.

define "newish screen"

No airport, just a Dell PCMCIA card. By newish screen I mean that I bought it as a new screen, but it's been in use now for just over a year. IOW, it's a heck of a lot younger, and therefore brighter, than a stock display would be.
