What would a 1280x768 pixel resolution look like on a Dell 20" widescreen 1680x1050 lcd (not ultrasharp)? I need readable text using apple's logic 7 audio program (poor eyesight).

CRAP, really not kidding.
LCD's run at non-native resolution look like CRAP, especially with text. I am living through failing vision hell, believe me, I am currently reading the forum at 64 point text. BGnR

Any way to set the font bigger in Logic 7's preferences? Or try Command-Option-Control-8 for high contrast white text on black view (see universal access panel in system preferences)?

Note that Dell's 22" monitor has the exact same resolution as the 20" but the pixel dimensions are 10% larger (meaning about 20% larger area) for not much more money. That's what I bought for work because my eyesight is not so wonderful either.
Also, we have Dell "Ultrasharp" models and their cheaper models in house. There appears to be zero difference between the two except that the Ultrasharps have a bunch more ports so that you can use the screen as a TV monitor. If you don't need that capability then don't waste your money on the Ultrasharp.

Davester!
Thanks for that info, just what I was looking for. Hard to find a "Pixels Per Inch" reference and doing the divide the resolution by the screen size doesn't always work because the specs don't always have the proper measurements. BGnR

The difference between the UltraSharp and their analog displays is in fact connections and contrast. Using the DVI from an UltraSharp is better than VGA from an analog. They also have the height adjustable bases, USB ports and rotation capability.

The low end Dell 22" is not analog. It is DVI and has the exact same specs as the "Ultrasharp" model. More importantly, running the low end monitors next to the Ultrasharps, they seem have exactly the same picture quality.

I thought Dell's low-end cheated on the colors, with 16.2 million vs. 16.7 million, in order to get the faster rate.

BGnR Are you implying that poor screens/resolution are a causal factor in vision acuity? Having eye issues, I have asked eye docs (varied specialists) and they said they were unaware of monitors being able to cause vision issues. Though they agreed that many people perceive that to be truth.

Here is what I said.: "LCD's run at non-native resolution look like CRAP, especially with text." My failing vision is from something else, and I really don't feel that I must share every nuance in my life like many others seem to do in this forum. Please in the future, don't group me with your "Group of Idiots" we all have to suffer through in day-to-day living, and I won't group you with mine. Hope of better vision to you! BGnR It used to be TV's that folks "perceived" to ruin vision, now it is computers. |
