In case someone missed this converter....

From the MacUpdate listing:
http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/24947/o...-converter "This Beta release expires on December 31, 2007." "These files are converted to Rich Text Format (RTF), which can be opened in Microsoft Word 2004 and Microsoft Word X." Presumably the RTF file can be opened in other word processors too. RTF has inherent limitations in what it can express or contain so you can expect to lose formatting and content (extra frills like macros and embedded whazzits) in the translation. I can see Microsoft's reluctance to provide a proper converter that directly converts the new Office files directly to the old format with a minimal loss of information. They can't have folks still using the old products productively. They don't earn as much money on that scenario. Luckily the free Open Office suite with its various Microsoft Word converters is doing a more complete job. |
