almost got a new MacPro

Looks like it will finally happen. Going for a dual 2.66. Firstly, is there likely to be a speed bump for the macpros anytime soon? And secondly, whats the best solution for running windows on it? I had forgotten i would need to factor that into the cost.

1) WWDC is weeks away. Don't know what Apple will show off, but Intel just reduced the price of most of it's Xeon processors. The last MP bump wasn't really a bump as much as an addition. If it were me I'd probably sweat it out until then just incase there is a bump or even a new logic board.

2) As for windows depends on how you want to use it. For non-intensive tasks Parallels is fantastic. But if you need to use it as a real PC then Boot Camp. Luckily you can use both (but obviously not at the same time) with one Windows license. Stick with Win XP or Vista Basic (essentially Win XP). You should be able to find Parallels for around $59 on sale.

cool. I thought the PC stuff would be more. I've already got the windows license since its at work in a sea of PCs.

I might have to jump on one of the refurbed 2.66 since the IT guy is hot to get me one now now now. and the way things are here, that very well may change in a few weeks.

Unless things have changed, BootCamp requires a FULL (not upgrade!) copy of Windows XP or Vista.

Parallels allows you to install any combo of older OS and newer update version of WinXP etc.

so Boot camp would be the more robust of the two?

If your IT guy is HOT for you to get it now... ORDER IT ASAP!!! Because budgets change. We only needed 2-3 more Dell's and I was hoping to order them by December/January. I was asked to hold off by one of the owners. Then the book keeper gave me the Ok to order one more computer and I waited a week because I was swamped w/ normal non-IT tasks and got the "HOLD OFF" from her and the owner. Should of ordered it right away. Now we are on HOLD right now.

If it's your personal station then it's best to wait if you can. For work related purchases, JUMP ON BOARD before they change their mind. Also, for refurbished for work purchases make sure you get applecare or they will be pissed if you start having problems w/ it. LAComputer always has great applecare pricing.
