Evan Almighty - anyone here seen it?
#1
I just NOW noticed it's PG, and wonder(ed) if maybe it might make a good family flick to go see?

Any parents see it and have opinions/review?

(I'm not looking for any religious opinions on this, just summer fun/entertainment value)

I read a review yesterday that said it is a good family pic and the reviewer wondered out loud why it got even a PG rating.

Saw it and loved it; took my whole family. As I recall, it was rated PG for "some scenes of mild peril and scatological humor". (i.e., some animal poop gets flung on people) Maybe a couple of crotch hits (as in the previews). I don't think there was even a bad word, though someone uses the word "penis" a few times (when speaking about an animal). I would imagine that got added to make sure the film wasn't "G", which is box office death, arguably.

My almost-six-year-old daughter has been asking to see this since the first preview last year. She was on the edge of her seat for most of it, though the "grown ups talking" scenes bored her a bit.

But, yes, the movie has a great message (not necessarily religious, either) and is suitable for the whole family.

It is playing at the Drive in this week with Oceans 13. I think I am going to go out tommorow and see it. I'm not expecting too much out of it, but maybe it will surprise me.

Too bad Steve Carell is in it.
I'd rather listen to fingernails on a chalkboard than watch him try to "act".
I'll read the book, instead. :-) :-)

Miserable reviews, but apparently a crowd pleaser nonetheless.

I don't know if that's a commentary on the state of reviewers or the tastes of the general movie-going public.

It sounds too silly to spend money on, especially to sit in a theatre with sticky floors (from beverages, you perverts) and yammering kids and adults.

We went to the drive-in last Saturday, it was a double feature with Hang Ten, which was first. My daughter fell asleep at the end of H.T., so we left before Evan Almighty started - she wanted to see that one more than H.T.

I liked H.T., by the way... wife thought it was slow. The ocean wave graphics were astounding -- totally real-looking.

Do you mean "Surf's Up?"
The only Hang Ten I found at imdb was this short from six years ago http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0335139/

Saw it. Pretty funny. Not a roll on the floor movie, but good none the less. Very suitable for family viewing. Some suggestive spots, but nothing horrible (bushes get in the way). They did make some references to other movies that the cast was in. Overall I'd say it was enjoyable.
