Who doesn't use iPhoto to manage their image files?

I don't remember the reason now, but many years ago I stopped using iPhoto in favor of iView Media Pro.

If you're not using iPhoto, then what are you using?

I import via card reader to folders. When I want to look through them I use Bridge. The folder names tell me what's inside.

The Finder. I like knowing exactly where my pictures are, and don't want an edited version here, the original there, all nested into some directory structure that changes with nearly every update of iPhoto.

I use Bridge if I need previews or need to rotate via EXIF data.

I use iPhoto for my ebay and random other home pictures. Photo Mechanic at work.

Okay, are we talking about IMPORTING, or MANAGING?
Two Different Actions.

I use the Finder to import my photo data.
iView is what I use to view and Catalog my photos.
Probably close to a million photos over 18 years of doing digital, and another 30 years of scanned in film.
Without a catalog I would go crazy trying to find photos taken an almost 50 year time span, no matter how well they are named.

I'm using Bridge. I've tried iPhoto, but I have never liked it, nor do I want to rely on it for reasons already mentioned:

I like knowing exactly where my pictures are, and don't want an edited version here, the original there, all nested into some directory structure that changes with nearly every update of iPhoto.

I have a lot of RAW files since getting a DSLR, and prefer to manipulate them in Bridge. I'm not sure that iPhoto can even handle the RAW files from my particular camera.

I have Extensis Portfolio, but it is now partially useless to me because the version I have (v. 7) can't deal with RAW files, and will not be updated to support them. Thus far I haven't felt that getting that capability would be worth the $99 upgrade price.

If and when I get a new Mac, I will probably be looking at Aperture or Lightroom.

i think its a "work" vs "home" thing -- but im not a pro photographer

all of the photos i shoot are of family -- iphoto is the best way to manage them by far -- having an edited vs original version is not a bug...its a great feature...other wise you need to "save as" all the time

again, thats for "home" use

i too use bridge for the rest of my files, about 200 gigs worth of manufacturers photos from CDs/DVDs/etc -- but i find bridges interface clunky and overall speed pretty slow. the interfacr acts like it wanted to be sorta like iphoto, but its not as good

i havent used the new CS3 bridge, which looks totally different...maybe i will like it more

not sure if i would use the new iphoto if i was a pro photographer, but i would give it a shot -- some of its organization looks top notch
