Are you sure it's working correctly? I can barely read what you're saying. It's all distorted. In fact, part of your post appears to be in chinese. I think that someone may have sold you one of those iFone knockoffs.

heh heh.

Is using the internet, checking email etc. all included in the monthly fee or does that cost extra? Sorry, I bet this is a stupid question but I haven't been paying attention.

I believe there is a $20/month charge for unlimited data on the iPhone ...

Correct, there is a basic plan, and a mandatory $20 data plan for internet and email. Text messages are 200, gratis.

The minutes and text can be upgraded for a fee, the data is unlimited for the $20.

The "mandatory $20" is built in? So the prices shown in the chart include the mandatory $20"?

I think having my tooth pulled this morning made some of my brains run out. :-(

Can the high speed EDGE data connection on the iPhone be used via Bluetooth to use a MacBook's larger display? The idea of viewing the internet regularly on a 3.5" screen really doesn't appeal to me.

Please allow me to clarify the "extra $20 for unlimited internet" bit:

The iPhone offers three monthly plans when you activate. All three INCLUDE unlimited Internet/email/data. They are priced at $60, $80 and $100. They vary only in the number of minutes (talk time) and the number of SMS text messages.

If you were already an AT&T customer, you can buy an iPhone and use whatever plan at whatever rate you already have, and just add $20/month for the unlimited internet stuff.

No.

But you have completely misjudged the experience of viewing the internet on a 3.5" screen. While I wouldn't want to do that way exclusively, double-tapping pages to zoom them in actually makes many web pages MORE pleasant to read on the iPhone than on a computer. More focus, bigger/easier to read text. No Flash ads.

Trust me, the web experience is NOT a good reason to avoid buying an iPhone. Quite the opposite.
