Argg. Fastest way to speed up video clip, and maintain pitch
#1
iMovie SUCKS at being able to fine-tune video clip speed. So, I hopped into FCE, which I don't have any experience with. I can speed it up (but can't preview it...I guess 2 GB RAM is inadequate) but the pitch is chipmunky. And I can't tell how to lower pitch in FCE.

SO, am I missing a really, really easy way to alter a video's speed, and maintain pitch?

I need to SAVE it, so I'm not interested in merely PLAYBACK.

Thanks.

Speed video and audio separately. In iMovie, extract the audio. If FCE works like FCP, just speed up the video. Do they have to match?

It's an interview. Yes, they have to sync, and tone/pitch matters, too. Thanks.

Try speeding up the clip in Quicktime Pro (command-K shows the A-V Controls window). There is an ability to change the speed there that does not affect pitch. There may b some glitching in the audio depending on the degree of the speed up.

I can speed up playback, but how does one make the changes stick? (Save them?)

Cut it up better so you don't have to speed through it Smile

This is what I would do...

Instead of doing both together, I'd speed them up separately.

Export the the audio using your favorite transcoder, use the Amazing Slow Downer to match the duration of the audio track to the video track without changing the pitch and then lay the new audio file over the video in FCP.
