iBook G4 won't boot

I think that my daughter, away in college with her iBook G4, had a kernel panic. The damn thing won't get past the grey screen with the Apple logo & the spinning ball. Anything I can tell her to try??

Boot while holding down the Shift key.

Try reseating any additional memory, if she's comfortable getting at it, under the keyboard.
