Way cheaper than any bare 750gb drive they're selling.

being the operative word as far as that model of Maxtor goes …

They had a much better drive (Seagate's FreeAgentPro 750GB SATA USB 2.0/FW case) for about $20 more last week.

Still, for less than a quarter a GB, the Maxtor can easily be replaced on a two-year cycle - (hopefully before problems arise)

FWIW Costco has the Seagate 750GB FreeAgent Pro w/ triple interface (eSATA + FW 400 + USB 2) for $199. That is $20 cheaper than the last time I was there 2 weeks ago. 5 year warranty, which is rare in external drives.

Just saw that BB will have the 750GB FreeAgent Pro w/ Dual Interface (eSATA + USB2) for $197 starting tomorrow. I think the 10% off coupon in the USPS Movers Kit works w/ external drives. That would make it around $177 + tax. That is cheaper than a bare 750GB Seagate. (I'm assuming the 7200.10 is inside these).
