I'd rather get it on VHS HiFi Stereo than any reel to reel short of a 1/4 half track, at 30ips.

And I already HAVE the VCR in use..... The reel is buried somewhere in storage. (no... we ain't talking Teac / Tascam, folks.)

I bought the FIRST VHS Hi-Fi machine, the JVC HRD-725U (U is for USA). [STILL HAVE IT ....and the full-page ad someone a decade later found for me and gave me from playboy]

I was always disappointed in tracking issues with VHS Hi-Fi that caused either too much W&F or distortion or flipping to the linear audio tracks. I have a lot of VHS tapes that are audio-only; kinda like that time in technology's DVD-AUDIO, I guess; in that not a lot of people pack so much audio onto DVDs today, either, like I did with VHS tapes back then.

My favorite first tape was The Police Synchronicity concert.

Man, that brought back some memories.
The old reel to reel machines and studio monitor speakers we used at the radio station in the early 80's sounded awesome.
( Pre cd, all our music came on vinyl or tape back then)
Lots of the staff would come to the studio on their off time to use the equipment to listen to their favorites-and tape copies of the new music ;-)

This is very cool. Wonder if Stereophile et al will finally get off their asses and pay attention to what's been right under their nose for decades.

How well are those reels going to hold up to time?
Magnetic media is more volatile than vinyl, storage-wise.

Hell, simply finding well manufactured audio tape these days is a major accomplishment.
Basically you are getting a "mastered" version of a 1:1 copy of the original master. I'm sure it sounds great (I know the guys doing it) but talk about a niche market! MAN, aren't there more important things one can spend one's money on?

I don't understand this reel-to-reel business. I have a number of direct to disc vinyl recordings. The point of direct to disc recording is to avoid problems such as tape hiss, wow and flutter, etc that arise from the master tape.
