Apple Security Update Can Cause Safari Crash.

I'm finding even stranger behavior than a crash since this latest update: Safari windows simply disappear after I unsleep the screen. Meaning: I'll have 3 or 4 Safari windows open, with a few tabs in each. I'll come back to my Mac after an hour, undim the screen, and voilà, all the opened Safari windows are literally gone. Safari's still running, but no windows. When I go to quit, it says "hey, idiot: you still have 3 windows and 12 tabs open. You sure?" Restarting doesn't help. No windows will open, even new ones from Command-N or the menu. The only way to get Safari to start again is to restart the Mac. Yes, I've trashed the .plist files.

Nothing life-threatening, but it is a bizarre behavior.

I'm constantly reminded that upgrading to Leopard was a mistake. All the other apple updates have been so good I jumped with no thought. Now I wish I had waited.

Bizarre for me too. On restart never stopped with the spinning wheel. Had to shut down with the button. Then when it finally restarted, links would not work in Safari. Now it seems fine.

Maybe it's just a coincidence - after loading the security update, I couldn't wake the system from sleep...I think I'll try that again to see what happens after a restart.

I just checked and had no problem waking from sleep with this thread's window open in Safari. It didn't disappear, either.

I wonder what the problem you are experiencing could be caused by?

Tried it twice more - no problem waking from sleep after just a few seconds, but after around a 1/2 hour - same problem as the first time. Finally resorted to hitting the power button - this woke the thing up, but caused an immediate freeze (also just like the first time).

So - how does one uninstall an Apple update?

Edit: Also looks like Spotlight does its indexing thing after crash recovery. Now I REALLY want to uninstall this update - this is just way too annoying...

Safari crashes all the time anyway.

Or maybe I'm underpowered in the memory department.

Safari didn't crash so much last year...don't know why it constantly does now.

At this point, I'm not even sure that the Update was even passed through any QC. I think they just threw it out there for all of us to beta test. After the update, Airport was on but not working for me in 10.4.11. Turned out the Network prefs were empty. I turned Airport off, then back on, and clicked on renew DHCP lease, and that got everything recognized again. Haven't connected an Enet cable to see if that's funny too. Simple problem, simple fix, but I've never had an update do anything like this before. As to Leopard -- when it gets to 10.5.9, maybe I'll go there.....

I've found a sloppy workaround to the disappearing inoperable Safari glitch: before leaving my computer for any length of time, quit Safari. Even if my Mac goes to sleep, I can awaken it and restart Safari without having to completely restart the whole computer. Not easy to remember, but it's a workaround until they come out with a fix.
