I feel bad for Marion Jones. It sounds like she tried to come clean. She cooperated fully. The prosecuter was asking for little or now jail time, but the judge threw the book, the book case, and the library at her.

She got busted for perjury. She didn't come clean until after she got busted to get a more lenient sentence. She gambled big and lived the glory for years and now the consequence has come. Look at Giambi, he squealed like a pig in slop, no lying to the Feds. He is a free man. She could have done the same but she was trying to protect her ill gotten gains. Now she has lost that and her freedom.

Agree 100% w/ pRON from the perspective of her complete lack of innocence. However, it's not clear to me that steroid use should be considered a legal issue. Thus, while she obviously is going to jail because of perjury, I'm not sure she should have needed to perjure herself in the first place....

Well, that was not all she was up for, to quote the article:
She also admitted lying about her knowledge of the involvement of Tim Montgomery, the father of her older son Monty, in a scheme to cash millions of dollars worth of stolen or forged checks. Montgomery and several others have been convicted in that scam.
The plea deal she went into last year was for a maximum of 6 months for both cases of lieing, the judge gave her that. She also benefitted from that as well. Ordinarily her involvement in that level of fraud could have got her a lot more than 6 months.

I think it was the checks more than the steroids that produced the sentence.

Ah...thanks for the added info. Drops her even further down on the morality scale and destroys any lingering sentiments of pity I had for her.

She should've gotten 12-14 months.
