My new Smart car is on its way!
#1
Not mac related, but still kind of fun.

I put my name in way back and I finally got a call from the dealer on Friday that it should arrive in the next 2-4 weeks. It looks like there will be two dealers in Chicago and they are just starting to get cars this week.

A far cry from my new 07 Avalanche, but still unique! Although my Avy gets about 20% better mpg than my last vehicle, my new smart should get about 300% better now!

I think it will be great for parking in city and since Chicago expressways are parking lots pretty safe. Have fun and you are going to have a lot of people asking you how you like it. Would have been a natural for my old Lincoln Park West neighborhood.

Parking lots? I thought you could just hang it up in the closet with your jacket. (Tongue)

There was a dealer in Yakima WA that was importing them from Canada, but they cost almost 3 times retail. $28k for a tiny little car is just crazy. If you don't mind me asking, what are you paying? I estimated that at around $13k it would be respectable transportation. I'm holding out for a diesel model though.

A lot of small cars these days can match its mpg and certainly surpass it in features.

Hey, if it breaks down, you can always fit it in the back of your Avalanche....

It is way out of the price range and not sold in the US yet, the BMW 118d is rated over 50 mpg (4.5l/100km) on the freeway. That is a little bit better than the Fit.

Ford and GM both sell smaller cars in Europe. Most people here would be afraid to drive them in traffic against soccer parents talking on the phone behind the wheel of a 7,000 pound Hummer.

I saw a lot of SMART cars in Italy this Fall. They were usually parked perpendicular to the curb !
