Is one of the most important ports for laptops missing from the MacBook Air?

In the tech specs for other Apple laptop under the Security tab it says —Kensington cable lock slot.
Not so on the MB Air page, and I can't see one in any of the pictures.
Anyone seen one in person today or seen the locking port in a pic? I see only what appear to be screws.
It would seem to be a bad idea not to add one to a ultra portable machine that will be spending alot of time in hotel rooms and convention centers? When I travel and I'm not around it, my Powerbook is locked down tight.

It's meant to be carried all the time. Otherwise get a MacBook (Pro)

Huh. Good catch, if true. I keep my computer locked at work (a high school), but I don't think it would stop a dedicated snatch and grab thief. I have it locked more for the fact that it is a more difficult target than other things sitting around, and so that I can tell my insurance company that it was locked up if it does get stolen.

Yea, forgot about college and high schools. No parent is going to send a kid off to college with a laptop that can't be locked down.

The slot locks are useless. Most can be easily bypassed. If not you can rip the laptop off of them with a good jerk. Just ask my former employer who lost several laptops in one night - all of which were secured with the Kensington cables. You might damage the slot on the laptop, but it would still be usable. If you want to secure a laptop, there are much better ways of doing so that the slot lock method.

That's not the target market. The boardroom and First Class (or Pvt Jet) are not usually where laptops are stolen.

What universe are you living in? :-)

I could be wrong, but I think the majority of college students *don't* lock their laptop down. Ever!

As mentioned--

It is meant to be carried and not left anywhere.

The MBA is neither suited nor aimed at most high school and college students.

And *how many* (if any) college students lock them down?

A thief could certainly snatch the thing off a cable. Damage would just as certainly result, but the thief wouldn't care. Neither would the person who'd buy it.

Well I still think that leaving the locking port off is a bad idea. And I think the MBA would be a good college machine. Lots of college campuses now are almost completely wireless and a lightweight Mac with a long battery life is a +, and its powerful enough for school work. And parents have no touble sending kids off to college with $2000+ MacBook Pros so cost isn't an issue.
And unless macphanatic former employer recovered the stolen laptops he has no way of knowing if they still worked after being ripped from the cable.

Are the cables a deterrent for the determined thief? No (no lock is)
Are the cables a deterrent for the opportunistic thief? Yes

If I had a MBA & left it unattended where it might be stolen, I'd probably put it into a lockable briefcase, which could then be chained to a heavy desk.
