Leopard External firewire Boot drive?
#1
I just recently upgraded to 10.5.1. In the past I have used a Firewire External to back up my main drive. I have always used CCC for this and it has always been bootable. I just used CCC in 10.5.1 For this and now the drive will not boot. I tried the Time machine and discovered that you could not boot with it. So I wiped the drive and cloned a new copy,
only to find that it will not boot. Anyone have a suggestion as I much prefer to have a bootable backup drive.

thanks,

Norm

[quote papercup]v3 CCC?

Yes,

I did notice that the new CCC version does not have the Make Bootable
option like the previous versions.

I just downloaded v3 a few days ago to make a back up boot (10.4)

That part threw me too - but in the new version you no longer have to check to make bootable

Did you check the "erase target" option ? You must do that to make it bootable.
Go to the Help Menu and type in "bootable" for lots of good info

I used the new CCC to make bootable FW drive worked just fine. When you format the FW disk in Disk Utility, you need to make sure that it is GUID (you can find this in the options of creating a partition). If I recall correctly, you need to have this GUID partition thingy to have a bootable drive.

I work off my external FW drive connected to my Macbook.

I have no trouble using CCC to make bootable external FW disks.

What SKYLANE said.
I used CCC and use a Ministack FW as my Mini's boot drive. One GUID partition.
Vast improvement over the internal SATA HD.

I don't think you should make a GUID partition for your backup if you are using a PPC. Only an Intel Mac can boot from a GUID. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
