I just don't get eBay sometimes...

Given the choice between 2 identical items, why would you bid on the higher one?

Looking at two auctions for the exact same item, both used in comparable condition. Both sellers have 100% feedback rating. The first item has no bids, ends in 1 day and is it at $300. The other item has 1 bid and is at $375, and ends in 2 days. Shipping for both is about the same.

Try this one:
Seller list item at BIN of $50 or a start. bid of $25 but, he has a dozen of the same listed, all ending within 3 days of the first listing.

It gets better, a couple of dolts will get into a bidding war on one of the items driving the sell price over the BIN price ::o

...brilliant!

One seller might be 100% with 1000 ratings, vs 100% with 1 rating.

Is shipping fixed? If it's variable, it might be a lot cheaper (or local pick-up possible) for some of the bidders on one item versus the other.

The cheaper item may have a poor title or description (mis-spellings), causing some bidders to not find it in the search listings.

Maybe the more expensive item is using all of eBay's listing features to promote their item, and this proves those features actually work!

So, lots of variables and possibilities come to mind without actually seeing the two auctions.

Edit: Also, new eBay bidders are usually stupid...

this happens quite often in the real world (as in live auctions). I have been to many, many auctions where the auctioneer will start off at $200 with no hands and then have to go to a starting price of $25 to garner interest. Usually, the item ends up right around where he started, but sometimes, it goes for much more. It's known as getting there the "hard way."

Oh...c'mon...the sellers are just as bad...

2 identical items from the same guy....about 4 - 8 auctions apart.

First one is BIN $450.00 (with $25 shipping)

Next one is BIN $175.00 (with free shipping)

Guess he figures...the second one will be snatched up by someone who see's a deal over the first one.

Actually...that's pretty smart....too bad the going price for the same item from anyone else is $50.00.....but he keeps on listing and listing and listing...
