After coding the newer remote, a 3 button Chamberlain Security +, I test-ran the Chamberlain/LiftMaster garage opener several times and everything worked as it should. The original LiftMaster Security + remote control worked as well. Then today, the latter wouldn't not open the garage door at all. Dead silence. It wasn't the battery. The garage has no side door. We would have to break one of the side glass windows. S/O has the other remote with her at work 60 miles away. I didn't try to open the garage door with brute force ... um, manually ... yet. My question: Is it possible that I decoded the original remote when coded the newer one hence now the problem?

Yes, if you did them as separate operations, i.e. each time telling the opener you were resetting everything. Most have the option to re-do all codes for all remotes or just to allow one remote to assume the existing code the others have.
I'm not explaining it very well but hopefully you get the gist.

I have a Stanley so it may not work the same way as yours but mine has a rolling code, so it's not possible to decode the remotes on purpose. You have to do a hard reset like you would a phone or other electronic device. In other words it has to be intentional. But that could just be my unit.
You might also want to check the circuit breaker. Could be it overloaded and shut down.

I think I understand what your explanation. I suppose I will have to call up the manufacturer to find a code that will work with the two remotes we have.

Yes! BTW, it's a detached garage. We inherited it with the house we just moved in. No manuals for this 2004 opener

I'd install a separate keyed door ASAP. Like AD said, most openers should have some sort of disengage to bypass a situation like you're in, but you'd have to break a window or punch a hole in the door itself to actually use it if you're on the outside.

Well, once you find the model number check their website for programming info.
to find a code that will work with the two remotes we have.
Sort of. What I meant was "have both remotes in-hand and program at the same time." << You may have not had to do that the first time but it sounds as if you'll have to now.

A save button ?
With no other way in I'd get a key lock put into the door frame that will turn the opener on. Everyne gets another key to never use or hide it somewhere to never be used.(will not work if the power is out) I'd prefer putting in a door though.

With the Chamberlain Security+ openers, adding a remote doesn't delete the other remotes. To delete all remotes you have to press the "learn" button so the LED glows steady, then press and hold the "learn" button on the opener until the light goes out, about 6 seconds I believe.
I'm guessing one of two things has happened. The receiver board in your opener has fried, or check your breaker panel, you may have no power in the garage.
I don't think there is any way to set the code or get a new one for the remote without having physical access to the opener itself. And don't try and force open the door from the outside, if you did actually manage to get it open you'll have severe damage to either the opener and the door itself. A window is way easier and cheaper to replace.

I just used my S/O Chamberlain Security + (this is the newer one) garage remote to open the garage door. It worked flawlessly!
