"I Grew up a poor Black Child"...
#1
The opening line from the Film "The Jerk" resonated in my head when I read this headline:

"Obama says he grew up less privileged than rivals"

Puhleeze. We're not supposed to be a 'class sensitive' country. Of course we are, and it's sustained by the media and politicians.

The old truism still holds true:

Politicians stay close to the "Working Class". It's the way they avoid actually having to belong to it.

We get your point - you don't like Obama. Everything he says reminds you of Steve Martin lines.

I see your bad headline and raise you one -

"Analysis: murderous Islamic leader will not be missed" - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/africa/article3855369.ece

>>We're not supposed to be a 'class sensitive' country. Of course we are, and it's sustained by the media and politicians.

Thats the typical republican response to class concerns. At the same time, "elitist" is their favorite slur to sling at liberals.

You know, considering he looked like he pretty much had to crash and burn badly back when he was being mass-adolated, I think he's doing O.K. But it is a little bit like he's lost his focus and gone (permanently?) on the defensive, waiting to see which tidbits the press will latch onto next, rather than being proactive.

mattkime, are you an Obama supporter? I thought you weren't happy with any of the candidates.

>>mattkime, are you an Obama supporter?

I was point out that picking apart a candidate because of a bad headline just doesn't make any sense.

Still, I'm very happy with his stance on the gas tax holiday.

Gotcha-- thanks. I missed it if he had any commentary specific to the gas tax idiocy-- would appreciate a link if you have one.

Obama is stumbling around trying to explain himself. He has to somehow stand up, brush himself off, and regain his dignity.

Although it's not his fault that the headline writer chose that part of his statement to emphasize, it makes him look sort of whiny. He needs to figure out how to get out of this cycle of diminishing stature that he's being drawn into.

“We're arguing over a gimmick that would save you half a tank of gas over the course of the entire summer so that everyone in Washington can pat themselves on the back and say they did something,” said Obama.

makk-

Actually I don't like ANY politician.

Obama was actually a bit of a breath of fresh air, but his off the cuff responses as this primary election has dragged on have shown more of the true colors behind the aura. He's just like the rest of them, it just didn't start showing until he got weary.
