Ford 351
#1
My brother bought an old Mastercraft with a ford 351. It says it was manufactured in Winchester, Ohio. I was aware of the cleveland and windsor, but which would this be? I googled it, but didn't find anything. kj.

The bolt pattern on the valve covers is the quickest way to tell the difference.
The cleveland has 2 bolts on the upper part of the cover, and the windsor has one that is dead center on the upper side.

I'll check that out. So, there really are just two types of 351? kj.

There is a 351M, as well. It is usually a truck engine, IIRC.
Not sure of any other varieties, someone on here probably knows.

My buddy had a Mastercraft with a cleveland engine in it, but that was 20+ years ago.

My buddy had a Mastercraft with a cleveland engine in it, but that was 20+ years ago. 351 Windsors (originally built in Windsor, Ontario) are the largest version of the 221/260/289/302/351 family of small-block Ford V8s. Their intake and exhaust valves are arranged in a straight line.

351 Clevelands (originally built in Cleveland, Ohio) are the smallest version of the 351C/351M/400 family of (slightly less) small-block Ford V8s. Their valves are "staggered", with the intake valves being slightly offset towards the intake manifold and the exhaust valves being slightly offset towards the exhaust manifold on each head.

Windsor V8s have the thermostat housing on the intake manifold, Cleveland V8s have the thermostat housing on the engine block.

and the 351C's can be built to punch holes in space like a Windsor could NEVER do...

I'm not a Ford guy but isn't one a 2 bolt main block and the other a 4 bolt main?

That's it, probably. Early 80's mastercraft. It looks like something Evil Knievel would own. kj.

Don't you wish cars had carpet around the edges to make them easier to work on?

That's exactly it, afaict. Even the carpet looks the same (and it's not original).
