Anyone use Windows Live Mail?

Thoughts? Wife still uses Outlook Express but thinking about switching to WLM to continue Hotmail support.

Is it a local client that downloads mail to your machine, or is it basically a webmail client?

That is, would she be able to read past emails without being connected to the internet?

It's web based. I think you can pay for pop or maybe imap. kj.

Sorry KJ is not quite correct, and is confusing the rebranding of Hotmail as Windows Live Hotmail.

Windows Live Mail is a free desktop mail client with support for POP, IMAP, RSS and hotmail integration. It is the intended replacement for Outlook Express and can certainly be used to view stored emails while being offline.

I've toyed with it a bit in my XP virtual machine and it is pretty slick offering nice integration and good photo viewing features built in.

Here are some links describing it's features:

With Microsoft, it is difficult not to be confused.

Sounds like a good replacement for OE, which is what she needs. MS is dropping OE support for Hotmail in June so she needs an offline local mail client which will support both hotmail and gmail accounts.

Thanks for the replies.
