"i don't know" ASL
#1
Anyone know how to sign "i don't know" in American Sign Language? I looked in up in several places but can't find that phrase.

Isn't it the sign for "know" and then moving your hand down (palm down) and out (like the sign for bad)?

It isn't in my dictionary and my memory is rusty. Sad

a blank stare does it for most people.

Or at least a shrug of the shoulders.

Seriously, the sign is holding both your hands up (palms up, elbows bent, hands about at mid-chest level) while you shrug your shoulders and slightly rotate your thumbs outward at the same time.

Many ASL signs are common sense, such as tapping your watch (or where a watch would normally be on your left forearm) with your right index finger means time; or patting your right hand lightly a few times on your right hip/thigh means dog (how many times do we all do that when we call our dogs?).
