It was entertaining, but REALLY needed a script editor. The dialogue was terrible. Good Visuals. The CG wasn't intrusive and was very well done. The best part really was the ending after the credits.
Saw Iron Man last night

Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Skip this post if you haven't seen the movie! Robert ZT, The dialogue wasn't nearly as bad as you're saying. It wasn't perfect by any stretch but not that bad. Robert Downey Jr was quite good as Stark. Better than I expected. He nailed the character well, though I still think of Stark as more than just intellectually imposing. I always though he should be played by a taller and more imposing actor. I wasn't happy with Terrence Howard as James Rhodes. IMO, he didn't seem to be tough and hard-balled enough to play a marine. Too bad they chose him instead of someone like a younger Wesley Snipes. I wasn't particular thrilled with the changes they made to the Obadia Stane story-line. In the books, he owned a separate corporation that takes over Stark's company and is a cold bastard. Jeff came off as too much of a nice guy at first. Stane was never a nice guy. Ever. He also doesn't get blown up by a reactor. After Stane as Iron Monger is defeated (or on the verge of defeat), Stane realizes he can't win and commits suicide rather than get captured. While not as impressive as seeing the reactor go boom, it would've been far more in character and true to the story. The bit at the end after the credits was nifty, though Jackson was the model for "Ultimate" Nick Fury, not the Nick fury thatis in the mainstream Marvel universe. the Avengers inniatiave is also a part of the ultimate universe. Sitll, very nifty! Agree with everything else you said, i.e. CGI, etc. Robert

I thought that they depended too much on the technology in the story line. It would have been better if the Iron Man suit was damaged or rendered inoperable and Stark had to get all MacGyver on Obadia's behind. It would have been a better story if they showed that, while the suit is impressive, Stark's brain is the most dangerous weapon. The suit is just a tool to utilize that weapon.

The best part was when Rhodes looked at the Iron Man suit and said, "next time, baby." <-- Spoiler text. It had half the audience cracking up and the other half wondering why half the audience was laughing. Other than being totally predictable, it was a nice ride. Not worth the expense of a full-price ticket, but then again how many people can afford to take on another mortgage on their home just to see a movie? Catch the matinée. It's worth it.

Terrific movie, one of the best super hero films yet. I still think BATMAN BEGINS is a watermark for these films, with the first SPIDER-MAN being a good mainstream one. The first two X-MEN films were quite good as well. All are predictable, but a lot of fun.
[added] MacMagus; agreed on the spoiler text. I'm not that familiar with the "modern" IRON MAN stories, but that's a cool tip of the hat. LOVED the after-credits clip with you-know-who talking about the you-know-what initiative. And don't forget, Downey is going to show up as Tony Stark in THE INCREDIBLE HULK film this summer. I don't think Hulk can maintain a franchise, honestly, but a cross-over in IRON MAN 3? Can you say "HULKBUSTER" Armor? I'm thinking "THE AVENGERS" in 2012 or 2013.

Robert He's not a Marine in the movie, he's an Air Force light colonel (I have no idea what he was in the comics, though, and I'm too lazy to go look it up).

I'm not usually a big fan of these kinds of movies. But with Robert Downey being in it, I'm gonna go see it.

Lived up to the reviews. We just saw it and loved it. Downey IS Tony Stark - As a person with his flaws, he was perfect for the role.

Thumbs Up! Well enjoyed. Saw it at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, really great audience for the showing we had.

Robert's assessment of Howard's performance is correct, but Will beat me to the punch.
I enjoyed it a lot, and Downy was easily as good as I'd hoped. He pulled off both the Before and After Stark really well. He relaxed, glib delivery really made the movie for me. The "Hello, Hef!" really cracked me up. And normally I don't care that I get jokes the audience doesn't, but it was kind of cool to here some people getting them (more than usual for my experience). NOW I wish I hadn't watched so the two trailers sooooo many times. But I loved the movie. And I *always* stay through the credits, so I was pleasantly surprised. |
