Why are there still no MagSafe car chargers/adapters?
#1
Why are there still no MagSafe compatible car chargers of any size (MB Pro, MB, MB Air). I know all the latest Mac portables have different power requirements, but why hasn't anybody stepped up to the plate and made a car charger/adapter yet? Is it really that Apple is being stubborn on the MagSafe technology, or are the cigarette lighters not powerful enough?

Anybody have any ideas?

Yes.

And they do exist, but they are made from existing Apple adapters, and thus, are very expensive.

You could also just get a DC-AC inverter and plug your AC adapter into it.

Liability.
And perhaps lack of desire to support the automotive industry, directly or indirectly.

no, not liability. Apple has a PATENT.

OK, then why hasn't Apple made any?

Is there any problem with this one?

Frankly, I don't like laying out money for all these adapters, so I have a 400 watt inverter that simply produces 110v for the regular power cord. These are available everywhere.

Looks like they got around the patent issue buy buying the cords from Apple.

I was thinking of getting one of the Kensington Ultra Portable Power units. It just seems odd that even after 2.5 years (the first MagSafe equipped MacBook Pro came out in Jan. 2006), nobody has made an official one...

just buy a basic 100+ watt inverter and be done with it.
