Unable to connect to shared printer
#1
I'm visiting a friend who has a LAN wired to a broadband router, sharing a USB printer (Canon MP830) connected to an iMac. I was able to join the network and use the internet connection and file sharing, but no printer shows up, although it is working on the other machines on the network. All machines are running Leopard. We are stumped. What to do? TIA

Are you connected via wireless?

You will probably need to install the driver for the MP830 on your Mac...

Try:

http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/

does it show up?

Did you go to SystemPreferences> Printer & Fax and add the printer (click on the +)?

iMac is not asleep. The only printer that shows up is my HP3005 network printer that is not connected, since I an traveling. Nothing is shared printers.

The only printer that shows up is the HP3005 that is not connected.

When I click on + and select Other Printers, I get the Canon IJ Network driver but no MP830 and the add button is grayed out.

In the Shared preference pane, have you selected printers?

If it's being shared through a Mac then you'd access it as a Bonjour printer, not a Canon network printer.
