Boss from Hell Update
#1
Previous thread from January: http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/412...msg-412445

Our grievance process is glacially slow, but my helper had her day today.

Here is the outcome according to our union rep:

-my boss rambled on and on and said that I would back his story 100%

-at that point, my helper and the union rep were forced to use a letter I had written in her defense--which was rather damning.

-End result? The Zone manager ruled instantly in the favor of my helper, told my manager that my helper and me were "off limits" and no retaliation would tolerated by the company.

-he has to attend anger management classes.

I'm glad my helper won, but I still have to work this guy. And now that I "betrayed" him (in his eyes), I'm sure he will retaliate against me and her in some manner.

He is so egotistical, that warning or no warning, he will.

What gets me, is that in January, I went into his office and flat out told him, that I would not support his version of events and that should he pursue things against my helper, I would write a letter detailing how he behaved that day. Yet he went into this meeting and testified that I would support his version of events!!!!

This has to be the damnedest situation ever that I've been involved in at work : )

So what do you think, do you think someone who always has to be right will learn a lesson and follow directions from his superiors or will he play true to character and harass me and my helper?

Keep a small recorder handy . . . ready to turn on at a moment's notice. Set one up on your computer at work, if you have a computer that you use. Put the program in the dock for immediate access. Take no chances. Some people are truly stupid when it comes to their ego. Video cameras would help too.

Damn.. I remember that thread...

Is there any way you and your helper could transfer within the company so you're not directly under the angry moron?

I think your boss is a jerk and will probably not change. He took your support of him for granted. He expected you to lie if necessary to back him.

You did the right thing.

You are going to have to mind your P's and Q's around him. I would bet on some type of retaliation.

Time will tell.

Unless your company takes some action against the manager, I'm sure he'll do his best to try to get you and her fired. The idea about a recorder is a good one. Document EVERYTHING. If you even begin to suspect retaliation, document it and DON'T hesitate to go above his head. It's your behind vs. his behind. Whose behind do you wish to save?

You've got a lot going for you since the zone manager ruled in your favor (and your helper's). Guys like your boss don't like people who disobey their authority. I'm sure he thinks you've been insubordinate.

I was in a situation a lot like this. In the end, I just tried my best to bite my tongue and get the hell out of there before it got worse. Found a new position, gave my 2 weeks notice & NEVER looked back.

My original advice from January still stands: start looking for another job. The fact that this guy went into the meeting thinking that you would support his version of events, despite the fact that you told him you would do the opposite, suggests that he is either completely out-of-touch with reality, insane, or both. It's good that the Zone manager supported your helper, but it's going to be really unpleasant for you and her until this guy leaves... and given his semi-insane behavior, it's doubtful that he will... after all, so long as he doesn't get caught, who is going to suffer more: him, who behaves in an insane manner, or you, who has to put up with it...? So... start looking for another job. You might even want to touch base with your helper, and see if she is doing the same.

Sorry, what PeterB said.

I disagree with PeterB.... why should a good employee capitulate to a moron. Let the lousy manager be discovered and removed for the company's own good. Why should good people suffer at the hands of the bad?

In an ideal world, maybe.
