I know this has been asked in the past, has anyone found a higher print and/or binding quality from any of the book printing services?
Here's some of the contenders, w/links to their pricing pages:
iPhoto picture books up to 8.5x11"
MyPublisher
up to 15x11.5" (they offer a 1-time 2-for-1 deal, or 20% off $50; 40% off $100 orders)
Blurb up to 11x13"

i did an apple book for mothers day (20% off coupon) -- cant comment on the others, but the quality of the apple one (which im sure is done by someone else) was excellent
plus being able to put it together right in iphoto made it a painless process

I haven't dealt with them yet, but for a long term project, Lulu.com looks to be the best for non-photo-centric books.
If you're looking specifically for a photo-book, there may be (and probably are) better vendors that specialize in that.

For photo books, I think being able to do it all straight out of iPhoto is a huge plus. So my first choices are Apple or MyPublisher (via iPhoto plugin). Some reviews I read showed better results from Apple, but MyPublisher runs more sales and special offers. If you have tons of pages, some of the other options will definitely be cheaper, but if it is more of a pain to set up, I suspect it may not be worth it.
Photographers often mention books from Asuka (
http://www.asukabook.com) for being of the best quality, but I think their prices are at a different level than the rest of the bunch.

My first Lulu book is due in today's mail! I'll let you know what it looks like, although I did a straight black and white version because there was no need for color.

Sweet!
Is that your "proof" copy? Or are you just doing a single copy (for now)?

I found searching Flickr for the various services to be a good way to see what some of the end products look like.

I ordered a single copy, as they suggested. It just came! It's really interesting to "see" yourself in print! It's a very plain vanilla book, because I totally lack creative talent so am a plain vanilla person, but it's neat! There is one error that I have to correct, and then I'll order four or five copies to send to the relatives. I already see some things I'd do differently if/when I do another book, but it is cool! Even the black and white pictures came out pretty good.
