Okay... this may seem a silly question, but do any of the DTV Converter boxes that qualify for purchase with the $40 DTV coupon, allow you to "convert" for a standard CRT set OR allow for higher quality output via Component or other HD cabling on a HD-ready set.
It seems like most "converters" simply change the DTV signal to a composite or Analog coax signal... with no other output options.
I would rather pay a little more for a *single* box that could be used with both old TVs via the analog coax, or could be used with a a HD-ready display that lacks a HDTV tuner of its own.
Anyone know if:
A. Such a device actually exists?
B. Any such devices qualify for the $40 coupon?
I've tried searching individual devices, but it is a slow and tedious process.
Thanks.

Thanks, BGnR!
A shame that it doesn't qualify for the coupon, though.

The coupons are to allow folks who don't have the resources ($$$) to stay in the loop.
It has turned into a huge screwup, not the governments fault in my opinion, folks just want something for nothing, and refuse to do any research.
You are asking questions and doing your homework./
That Samsung box does, ATSC/Clear QAM, and is an analog amplifier, with a multitude of outputs, HDMI/Component/S-Video, well worth the low price.
The boxes that are coupon qualified do ATSC to Analog only with a very limited output.

Yeah. I guess my thinking was that a single *useful* (but more expensive) box should qualify just as much as one of the simpler and cheaper ones that don't have outputs for use with HD sets as well.
In the spirit of NOT buying devices that will immediately be useless once the OLD TV dies... paired with something slightly newer (even some LCD "monitors") such a device would allow a perfectly functional basic HDTV.
And while not "free" at $150 MINUS $40 = $110... still a better deal than a FREE box with limited usefulness.
I will probably end up NOT using the $40 coupon, and just wait things out, as the TVs I have in mind are not the ones that get primary use.
Thanks for help clearing up what the options (currently) are.
Cheers,
Jem
