Not sure what you mean. Where are you being redirected to? Are you sure you are at www.yahoo.com and not some spoofed site?

We need more information before we can help. Redirected to where? Try Google?

The only time(s) I've been redirected was from typing in a wrong fill box by mistake, and one day Verizon must have been having problems because I kept getting directed to <> search results and I KNOW I was typing in a google box. The problem resolved itself several hours later when I tried again.

I'm sorry I didn't provide enough info. I just don't know what I don't know.

Below are two examples of what is happening with yahoo searches using Safari and then Firefox:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Reset Safari v3.1.1 and reopened with blank page.

2) Typed in "http://www.yahoo.com/" in the address bar and then pressed return key.

3) "http://www.yahoo.com/" page came up and I did a yahoo search for "frog"

4) Results:
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=frog&fr=yfp-t-501&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8

5) Top result:
Grow a Frog
Find the Perfect Toys & Activities for Your Young Explorer Here.
www.YoungExplorers.com

6) Clicked on "Grow a Frog"

7) The address bar Immediately read:
"http://www.rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=AOo........(too long to read in just a moment before new address appeared)

8) This now appeared momentarily in address bar: http://results.yahoo.com/

9) This time, rather than going to some unrelated comerce site, I got this:

Safari can’t open the page “http://bridge.admarketplace.net/xtrk.php?fs=xml8&queryid=200436281&adid=200436342&pb=861.0&cp=0.210,108902,35946124,20,pub_crss-1983,frog/l=http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?SID=35946124-pub_crss-1983&AID=5463217&PID=2054082&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stores.ebay.com%2Fid%3D41717712” because it could not connect to the server “bridge.admarketplace.net”.

(Using a Google search for "frog", when I clicked on "Frog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia", it took me right to "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anuran")

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yahoo search using FIREFOX v2.00.14

1)Starting from a reset Firefox with blank page

2) Typed in "http://www.yahoo.com/" in the address bar and then pressed return key.

3) "http://www.yahoo.com/" page came up and I did a yahoo search for "frog"

#3 Result was:

Frog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Article about frogs, amphibians in the order Anura. Find out about frogs' taxonomy, morphology and physiology, natural history, distribution, conservation status, ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frog - 131k - Cached

But when I clicked on, "Frog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia"

I ended up here:
http://stores.ebay.com/Colored-Precious-Gems

If I go back to the results page, and now click on a result, sometimes it will take me directly to what I expected. Yet, if I try the same link again, I might be redirected somewhere else.

(I now did a Google search for "frog" and when I clicked on "Frog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia", it took me right to "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anuran")

------------------------------------------

Could my Mac be infected with something? I want to do a check but I don't have any software. Are there any good freeware applications that I can get from versiontracker.com/?

Meanwhile, I'm resetting all my passwords from a different Mac at another location.

Thanks,

Cassie

Not sure.. but it sounds like some goofy DNS issue.

When it can't properly identify a site, it's redirectlng to an advertising site as it's default.

I've seen that a couple times when the DNS Server for the host that's hosting a web site I maintain goes down. Try to get to the page, and it redirects to a seemingly random page full of ads.

You are getting a "DNS Redirect" from your DSL Provider!!
They are "Gleaning your Clicks" and selling them!
Time Warner and ComCast has been doing this for months.

I personally use OpenDNS.:

I'm calling AT&T to complain and request them to stop.

After they stop laughing and hang up on me, I registering complaints everywhere I can. Maybe it won't help but at least I will get some anger out.

Checking out "OpenDNS".

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info. They will deny it and say that they don't know what you are talking about.
This is Not a Slam, but you really don't have the technical expertise to even call the "Know Less Than Nothing" first level support and discuss this.
I have friends that have thirty year expertise knowledge in this area and they hang up exasperated after talking with their provider.
I gave up, I went with OpenDNS, free and fast.
Someday when you have about two hours we can discuss the SandVine story!!
Took me two years of digging to discover that dirty secret!!
