"So you think you want the new iPhone 3G, huh? Apple's
marketing blitz may have you fooled, because there are least
six solid reasons why you shouldn't spend your cash on one.
(No, seriously--you really shouldn't.)"

He doesn't get it. Apple quite often is not a 'feature leader'. But usually implements the features that the majority of people want in a simple and elegant way.
Spare me the 'it doesn't have a keyboard, MMS support, FM radio, lasers, lathe, blowtorch, reciprocating saw, holodeck, hydrogen fuel cell, helicopter pad, ice cream maker, etc.' spiel.
Tell Dan no one is making him or me buy one. It does what I need well and simply and as soon as the local AT&T store gets some more in, I'm getting one.

he had nothing original to say, just a summary of what other people have been saying since early june when it was announced
i guess originality isnt a requirement for a writer anymore
heck, the only thing he could beat up -- sound quality, slow edge browsing and no 3rd party apps (original iphone "flaws")-- just got fixed
tool is the only word i can think of

I liked this quote from the article: "The iPhone 3G's battery life is going to suck. Unfortunately, I don't know this for sure since Apple didn't give us the head start it gave to David Pogue of The New York Times and author of iPhone: The Missing Manual."
Maybe that's because David Pogue actually does an in-depth review of the device, not a rehash of tired arguments.
That said, I'm not going to buy an iPhone 3G. Not for any of the reasons he cites, though. I think the total cost of ownership is way too much for my needs. I do, however, have an iTouch which will be getting the 2.0 firmware sometime this weekend after the chaos has started to die down.

Some people would rather hate the 'Phone than love something else.
Sad.
I bought Tuner for the 'Phone yesterday and it works great. It's an app that lets me stream internet radio, and I get my favorite FM station, as well as the two runner ups.
I use more of my 'Phones features far more frequently than I ever did on any of my previous phones.
The *one* thing I *really* miss and want is voice dialing, and that may be on the way.
Two other things would also be nice- BT for stereo headsets, and CnP.
Other phones have these and some features the 'Phone 2.0 still doesn't have.
I'll keep my 'Phone.

I won't buy an iPhone until they put a label on it that says "Nokia" or "Windows Mobile" or "Blackberry", and runs a bunch of useless pc software that doesn't work. THEN I will buy one.

He's just pissed because he wasn't able to get an early review unit.
