Is it bad etiquitte to offer items for sale in this forum?
#1
I have an auction going on Ebay that may be of high interest to others on this forum (I am not linking to it or saying any more about it at this point) and I just wanted to check etiquette about possibly linking to it or sending PMs to anyone interested and ending the auction early if someone were interested.

I'm simplifying my life which involves selling/giving away a lot of things that others would find better use that I would.

I would say that if there are apple computer related items, and that you don't post about it more than once that it would be OK, at least for my part.

Direct offers of sale of an item is not allowed on the forum,
Sorry - but Larry doesn't want to turn it into a swap meet

There have been discussions with the site admins about adding a swap column but getting
it set up has never made it to the top of the priority list for them as they have their hands full too.

On occasion folks have asked for help by posting a "what's it worth" question and if others choose to PM
that person then there is nothing in the rules that prohibit that - just no direct offers to sale.

I think it is against TOS

but I also wish there was a way to sell to other members and avoid eBay and CL and all that crap.

Like suggested above, you could ask "what's this worth, I want to sell it" and then if someone is interested, they will PM you.

I did the opposite once, someone asked how to get a cheap iBook for their Mom, and I was about to sell one on eBay. I send him a PM, and it turned out the specs and price was way above what he was looking for, so the deal didn't go though. But I did end up getting a nice price on eBay after all.

The UnDoug set up a site for us, but sadly it does not get the traffic

http://macswap.org/

I would encourage anyone that wants to deal with folks you know try posting there

I realize that there is not much traffic there but if folks here started using it we could possibly see it increase.

And he was very nice about it.

Thanks for the reminder 'fil. I forgot all about Doug's site even though I have used it in the past!

I believe it was discussed between Larry & Doug but I'm not sure why it didn't happen.
The IT guys are probably busy enough so maybe it still may happen some day.
