Are you talking about 900 separate text files? Are you just trying to update and resave them? Or are you trying to print them?

If you are trying to update and resave them, there is no easy way -- each of the files would have to be opened, updated, and saved. A batch file could be created to automate some portion of this.

If you just want to print them with a date, you could use the watermark feature in the printer preferences to put a date on each printed item...

I merged a student XLC dbase into Word. These are 900 letters that I must send out. The problem I am having is to insert the date on all of them. Doing it one letter at a time is just ...

Don't understand the XLC database reference. If they're in Word, they could be "not text"...

Are they a single document in Word (900 pages) or 900 separate items? Or are you talking about the same letter going to 900 recipients?

Sorry about the missing info. This is my attempt at mail merge and the issues involved. Thanks for offering to help.

These are 900 individual letters with the same content except for various students' names and contact addresses. The 900 letters will be mailed out to 900 students individually. I can't figure out how to insert a date in one letter and have Word automatically inserted the same date to 899 letters. So far, I have 'cheated' by putting the date in the header but the format is all screwy.

Did you try the Word help for mail merge?

When I looked at doing it, it had an option just to have a single document and then a merged in list (sorry, don't have a PC at home, only at work). A single document letter with the date and then a field for name and addresses.

Sorry, can't be much help...

Word Help was the first place I looked. I couldn't find the info less I have missed it somehow. I even went to M$ website. Nothing came up. It might be that I was thinking of doing something completely out the scope of M$ Word. I might have to do it the way M$ wants it done.
